NICOTAWINES Leads Nigerian Wine Professionals on Landmark Wine Tourism and Investment Trip to Italy
It was a true discovery of authentic Italian taste like never before. NICOTAWINES proudly led a delegation of top wine vendors and entrepreneurs from Nigeria to Italy for an immersive wine tourism and investment journey -- an experience designed not just to taste exceptional wine, but to understand it, invest in it, and bring it home with purpose.
World-Class Wineries, Firsthand Experience
The delegation had the rare opportunity to visit some of Italy's most distinguished wine estates and production facilities, including Cantine Fina, Montresor Wines, Gruppo Caviro, and Terre Cevico -- Viticoltori dal 1963, among others. Each visit offered a window into the depth and diversity of Italian winemaking: from the sun-drenched vineyards of Sicily to the structured traditions of the Veneto, the trip was a masterclass in what makes Italian wine the most varied and storied in the world.
With over 2,000 native grape varieties and wine regions that span the entire length of the country, Italy offers an almost inexhaustible range of expressions. Seeing these estates firsthand -- walking the vineyards, meeting the winemakers, tasting directly from barrel and bottle -- gave our delegation an entirely new language with which to speak about Italian wine to Nigerian consumers.
The Aims of the Mission
This experiential trip was built around four clear objectives:
- Enhance cultural understanding and exchange between Nigeria and Italy
- Showcase Italian wine production, expertise, and regional diversity
- Unlock concrete business opportunities for Nigerian wine professionals
- Promote authentic Italian wines in the Nigerian market
Each winery visit, each tasting, and each conversation with a producer moved those objectives forward in ways that no brochure or catalogue ever could.
Voices from the Delegation
Mr. Tobi Fletcher, Managing Director of Ofadaboy, captured the spirit of the partnership: "We seek to promote cultural exchange, food pairing engagements, and the showcasing of Italian excellence, and to create opportunities for Nigerian wine enthusiasts. This collaboration will elevate the reputation of Nigerian wine professionals and pave the way for future investments."
Ehichioya Nicholas Isesele, CEO of NICOTAWINES, underscored the mission's commitment to accessibility and integrity: "Our mission is to make luxury wines accessible to Nigerians, ensuring an exceptional experience at an affordable price. This partnership will also combat counterfeit production and enhance the importation process."
A Lasting Partnership with the Consulate General of Italy
The Consulate General of Italy in Lagos reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Italian wines in Nigeria through a partnership that is as practical as it is meaningful. The collaboration is designed to:
- Simplify payment processes for Nigerian importers
- Deepen understanding of Italian wine appellations and quality standards
- Promote seamless and reliable shipments
- Recognise and support authentic, verified sellers
- Make premium Italian wines available at reasonable and competitive prices
This is the kind of institutional backing that transforms individual business relationships into something with genuine market-wide impact -- a framework that benefits producers, importers, retailers, and ultimately the Nigerian wine consumer.
Special Thanks
None of this would have been possible without the vision, effort, and generosity of Roberto Cardinale and Chinedu Rosa of Vines by Rosa, whose belief in this mission made it a reality far sooner than it might otherwise have been. Their contribution is one we will not forget.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to every member of the delegation who came on board, invested their time, and embraced the experience with openness and enthusiasm. You are the reason missions like this matter.
Italy is not just a source of great wine. For NICOTAWINES, it is where the story began -- and where it continues to grow.
